One of the first questions we get asked at our Rugby studio is simple: "how many sessions will I actually need?" The honest answer is that it depends on your hair and skin — but there's a clear pattern behind it, and understanding it makes the whole process feel a lot less uncertain.
Why laser hair removal isn't a one-visit treatment
Hair grows in cycles — anagen (growth), catagen (transition) and telogen (resting) — and laser treatment only works effectively on hair that's in the active growth phase. At any given time, only a portion of your hair is in that phase, which is exactly why a single session can't catch everything. Repeated sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, are what allow the laser to catch each new wave of hair as it enters the growth cycle.
Why we work to a 12-session programme
At Satin Glow, our standard laser hair removal programme is built around 12 sessions. That number isn't arbitrary — it reflects how many growth cycles it typically takes to see a substantial, lasting reduction across most treatment areas. Some clients notice a real difference much earlier, particularly on finer areas, while coarser or hormonally-influenced hair (common on areas like the chin or bikini line) can need the fuller course to reach a consistently smooth result.
What actually changes your number of sessions
A few factors we look at during your consultation shift the plan slightly from person to person:
- Hair colour and thickness. Darker, coarser hair generally responds faster to laser than very fine or light hair.
- Treatment area. Larger areas and areas with hormonally-driven regrowth (like the face) often need more sessions than areas like the underarms or lower legs.
- Skin tone. Your consultation includes an assessment so we can set the laser settings correctly and safely for your skin.
- Hormonal factors. Conditions like PCOS can mean hair regrows differently, which your technician will factor into your plan.
This is exactly why we don't sell a generic package before meeting you. Every programme at Satin Glow starts with a free consultation and skin analysis, so the plan reflects your hair and skin — not a one-size-fits-all number.
What to expect between sessions
Sessions are typically spaced around four to six weeks apart, giving your hair time to move through its growth cycle before the next treatment. Between sessions, you'll usually notice hair growing back finer and more sparse — that's the laser doing its job, even before you reach the end of the programme.
